Christmas Countdown: Dec 8 - Christmas Tree Time

Growing up, our family had a few tree traditions. First, my grandparents would come down every year for Christmas from Idaho and they would bring with them a huge (seemed like at least 10 feet but I was little so probably am wrong) tree that they had cut down from the forest by their house. We always looked forward to that day and the smell of pine would permeate our home so strongly! Second, my twin sisters birthday is on December 19th, so often this was the day we would decorate it (and often the same day my grandparents arrived).

In my family now, I have not decided what my preference is for Christmas trees. I think I would be fine with having a huge pre-lit fake tree so that every year it would be easier and cheaper to set up. But I do admit I like the smell and feel of a real tree. Jon is the one that says we have to get a real tree if we want one, so I am fine with that.

We got our tree this past weekend, and Shayla was so excited to help decorate and put the lights on. I got out the lights and ornaments and we got started. The most prevalent color we use on the tree is red, but I had taken my main set of red ornaments to decorate the tree for our Church Christmas party, so our tree is not as "red" as usual but I am still happy with it. There were a lot of handmade ornaments from when Jon was a kid. Not that many from my childhood, maybe with 7 kids around the house no ornaments survived that long. Jon's parents get us an ornament each year for the tree, and I like the tradition of having a new ornament each year for the kids, so I started that for Shayla too so when she has her first Christmas away from home she will have all her annual ornaments to decorate her tree with!

Here is the tree - pre-decorations. First time in this location of the house so we will see how that works!
Here is Shayla getting ready to help out with the decorating!

That is so funny...We have a bunch of Kyle's ornaments that were hand made too and I think I may have a couple (oldest of 7...hehe).

Very nice tree! We have the lights up on the house, but haven't gotten a tree yet.
