Helping Hands Day 2013

The past few years our church has partnered with the County of Ventura as part of a statewide Mormon Helping Hands Community Service day to provide service and beautify the community across the state!  The past few years I have been in charge of it as well doing publicity, helping find a needy location, organizing tasks, supplies, etc.  Yesterday was the actual event which was held in Foster Park in Ventura.  We cleared campsites of tons of leaves, painted picnic tables, installed new fence posts and brick work, trimmed trees and bushes. It was a success! Here are some photos of my kids participating!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST MOM EVER!  LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!

My mother is a poem

is a poem to my mother.

Warrior Dash 2013

My latest race was super special as I got to race with my best friend Heather!  In the past few years she has started to get into fitness and it was so fun to welcome her into that area of my life that means so much to me too!  So we got to run our first race together and we did the fun Warrior Dash at Lake Elsinore with a few other friends!  We had a blast and enjoyed racing together!  It is a lot more fun to race with someone fun!

Coronado Butterfly Preserve

I think I found one of my favorite places in the world and wonder why it took me so long to discover it since it is scarcely an hour drive from my house!  The Ellwood Butterfly Preserve located in Coronado Butterfly Preserve in Goleta, Ca.  We went at the beginning of March knowing that there probably were not many butterflies left but it was still so gorgeous and peaceful.  The Monarch butterfly season normally runs from December through February so we will definitely be coming back Dec-Jan to see the butterflies next time.  I hear it can be very crowded during that time so some of the magic of the solitude of the place may be gone but I bet seeing thousands of butterflies makes up for it! But if you ever want to get a little taste of paradise, check it out.  Only a short walk to the preserve but you can walk up to the bluffs and then keep walking and exploring.  See photos below for a glimpse of it's beauty!

Here we are in the midst of the Elwood grove - only a few butterflies still lingering

Best Directions for Future Reference:

Get on US 101 going northbound by taking Laguna St. to Mission St. (toward the ocean).
Turn right on Mission St.
Follow Mission St. to the freeway and take US 101 north.
Take the Storke Rd. exit.
Exit and turn left.
At Hollister turn right.
Coronado Drive is one street past Entrance, which is prominently marked. Turn left.
Park near the end. There is a hill with a big disply sign at the bottom with information about the butterflies. That is where you start!

Spring Break: Day 1 - Farm Fun

Spring Break Day One: THE FARM
We had a (mostly) fun Spring break. The first 3 days we were visited by Amy and her three kids and we had lots of adventures.  The last few days poor Shayla got a strange virus and ended up sleeping like 17-18 hours a day and when she was not sleeping she was very lethargic and just wanted to sit around so we missed a few more activities, but I hope we had enough fun in the first 3 days to make up for it!

We were invited to the coolest farm owned by a friend's friend with every farm animal you could think of there to see and the kids were able to get very hands on - feeding the animals, getting eggs, holding animals and riding horses.

And when we got home the kids took a walk/ride to the park

Mitchell ran ahead to pee - I guess he couldn't make it home - too funny not to share!
