Thoughts on the Olympics

Aren't the mascots so cute!??

Anyway, curious me - what is your favorite Olympic sport now that the games are almost done. Jon kept making fun of me because I briefly mentioned once that I like to watch what I am familiar with and have done/played before. So every time I watched something he would say "Oh, I didn't know you (fill in the blank) did gymnastics, played volleyball, etc"

Anyway, I have actually participated in many sports that are now in the Olympics in high school and junior high including: basketball (jr high), swimming, track (shot put, discus, and long jump), and fencing (yes, I always told those who made fun of fencing that it was an Olympic sport - it is harder than it looks - I did Foil and Epee in High School and won many tournaments...).

BUT, I still like to watching synchronized diving, beach volleyball, swimming and, of course, gymnastics! I saw a new gymnastic sport this time around that I have never seen - trampoline. I didn't know that was in the Olympics, if so, I would have practiced more on our trampoline in the backyard growing up. Then again, I would never have the patience/attention span to train the many hours needed to be an Olympic athlete - I give all of them lots of props!

ALSO these are some of the things that they SHOULD add to the Olympics:
-Walking my two dogs at the same time (it is a feat in itself)
-Sleeping (not very exciting for TV, but some have a real talent for this)
-Changing toddlers diapers (bonus if they are standing up - go Amy!)
-Trying to go to the bathroom with a toddler climbing onto your lap
-Text messaging- I have seem some crazy text messaging girls - come on parents, think of the excuses your daughters can give you now - "but mom I am training for 2012" - I can see this one happening

What do you think they should add as an Olympic event?

Oh I absolutely LOVED watching the swimming (I was a captain on our highschool swim team), gymnastics (did it when I was 6) and diving (not a chance that I would ever try it). I think being a stay at home mom with a dog should be a olympic sport...you are right....and see if they can blog at the end of the day :). Your to funny....enjoy the rest of the olympics!

You totally win for changing a big girl Shay on your lap! We haven't been able to see any of the Olympics. How sad, huh? But I think eating contests should be in the Olympics...like pie eating...or maybe an eating contest and then the trampoline?

Dude -- shot put? I'm having a hard time seeing you as a shot put girl. Sorry.

I think sitting in rush hour traffic while keeping your blood pressure at an optimum level should definitely be an Olympic Sport.
