Fire Fire Fire

Smoke in our area - near Piru

Once again, we here in Ventura County are being threatened by fire. Yesterday at about 1 pm the sky was as dark as night, filled with smoke from all the nearby fires! We in Fillmore appear to be safe as the fire would have to travel a long way to reach us (every year I ask Jon - "do you think I should worry?" and every year he says "I tell you every year it has a long way to come to reach us" so I feel safer.). But it is always a good reminder to update my 72-hour emergency kit and I need to update my baby stuff so that is what I will be doing today - staying inside away from the smoke!

The closest fire is the Ranch Fire about 10 miles east of us (http://inciweb.org/incident/1002/). Our neighboring town of Piru is being threatened and it will probably reach some of the homes there - but let's hope not! You are probably seeing all the coverage of the Malibu fires on the news. It is sad to hear of some of the places that have burned as they are all in my old neighborhood! I hope Pepperdine stays safe!
