Let Freedom Ring!

Fourth of July in Fillmore is one of our favorite times of the year! Such a classic summer day - as one friend put it - picture a day in the movie Sandlot where summer days were hot, simple, and adventure awaited! This year we were lucky to have my sister Amy and her kids join us for the 4th!  Fillmore is always a happening place on the 4th as it id the only town in the neighboring counties where fireworks are legal.

The day starts out early - 8 am - at our annual pancake breakfast!! We went to church and met up with Nana and Papa at the pancake breakfast for flag raising, the pledge of allegiance, and a pancake breakfast. Then down to Central street to the Chili Cook off and Car Show to walk around and see the cars and get some Italian ices and kettle corn! Then we went to our Friday morning story time for some books about the 4th and craft projects!  Then back home to join up with some friends we invited over and a massive water gun fight combined with a giant jump house with slide for all the kids to enjoy! The rest of the day was full of fun, games, water, jumping, good food and laughter - and of course Popsicles and FIREWORKS!!!!

At night Fillmore becomes "Little Baghdad" with every street in town alive with explosions of color (not all legal) and the city's firework show blends with large fireworks being shot off from every park and neighborhood blanketing the town with a layer of smoke!   It is a day to remember and a highlight of the year! Come join us in Fillmore on the next 4th!
