Should vegetarians eat animal crackers?

No, but seriously folks – what do vegetarians like me eat?

I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian which means I eat dairy and eggs but no other animal products (“nothing with a mother” – i.e. fish included). I have been a vegetarian for around 17 years so it is pretty second nature to me. People often ask me what the heck I eat for dinner since I am a vegetarian. Most people assume I either live on tofu and carrots or bread and water. There are many vegetarians who eat mainly pasta and cereal, but that is not me. I try to eat as balanced as possible and only eat one to two meat substitute products a week (as they are highly processed but the high protein is good for me to get my protein easier/faster). Anyway, so I thought I would share an example of how I eat by sharing the last week of dinners with you:

Day 1: Vegetarian White Chili (made with white beans, green chili and faux chicken strips)
Day 2: Spinach and Artichoke Lasagna
Day 3: Tofu Bites, Sweet Potato Fries, Celery salad (Okay, so there is some tofu in here, but I normally only eat it when I make it for Shayla too, but these bites are GOOD!)
Day 4: Armenian food (large lunch) – Baba Ganoush (eggplant), Hummus, pita bread, cheese, tabbouleh
Day 5: Black Bean, Carrot, Avocado and Cheese Burrito
Day 6: Veggie Tempura Crunch Rolls from Trader Joes (basically vegetarian sushi – yum!)
Day 7: French Onion Soup, Baguette with olive oil and Parmesan cheese, salad

So I do eat good food – or Ilike to think so...

By the way, I DO eat animal crackers (:

Hey Larissa, soo if you only eat things "without a mother"...wouldn't that exclude eggs?...they come from a mother...and doesn't milk come from a mother too? And don't most fish lay their eggs and take off so there is no real "mothering" taking place and in some cases eating their own spawn? But you won't eat it?...what do you think about sea horses? I am so just kidding, ha ha...sorry I had to :)

That is awesome, Laris. How was the white chili? I have been in a serious food rut for the past three months, and now I can't do dairy while nursing. I don't know what to do!
